The next stage is selecting the appropriate raw material. Different types of plastic are used in the manufacture of household products, including polypropylene, commonly referred to as PP, and high-density polyethylene, or HDPE. The injection moulding process consists of several consecutive stages.

1. Feeding the plastic granules into the machine

The plastic granules are fed into the machine’s hopper and gradually transferred to the plasticising unit. The amount of material supplied must correspond to the size, weight and construction of the product being manufactured.

2. Heating and plasticising the polymer

Inside the heated barrel, the polymer is brought to a temperature at which it becomes a uniform, plasticised material. A rotating screw moves the material forward and prepares the correct amount of molten polymer for the next production cycle.

3. Injecting the plastic into the mould

The plasticised material is injected under pressure into the closed mould. The molten polymer fills the mould cavity, reproducing all the designed shapes, rims, reinforcements and surface details.

4. Packing, holding and cooling

Once the mould cavity has been filled, holding pressure is maintained for a short period. The product is then cooled inside the mould, allowing the plastic to solidify and retain its intended shape.

The required cooling time depends on the type of polymer, the size of the product and the thickness of its walls. Removing the product from the mould too early could cause warping or deformation, which is why the process parameters must be carefully controlled.

5. Opening the mould and ejecting the product

Once the cooling stage has been completed, the mould opens and the finished part is released using an ejector system. At this point, the product already has its final shape, but it must still be inspected before it can be packed.

Why are injection moulding parameters so important?

Each product requires carefully selected machine settings. Important parameters include the polymer melt temperature, injection pressure, injection speed, holding pressure, cooling time and mould clamping force.

Correctly setting these parameters helps prevent manufacturing defects such as short shots, uneven surface finishes, warping, discolouration and dimensional deviations.

  • base stability and correct positioning of the product on a flat surface,
  • surface quality and the absence of visible defects,
  • colour consistency throughout the production batch,
  • resistance to pressure and typical loads encountered during use,
  • the finish of rims, edges and structural features,
  • the correct operation of handles and other fitted components.

Packing and preparing products for dispatch

Once the products have passed quality control, they are arranged, grouped and packed. The packing method depends on their size, shape and the number of items included in each package.
